Cinnamon Sugar Dough Rolls

After my super emo post at the end of last week, I decided it was time to take a little blogging break. I cook and write about it because it’s fun for me. And last week I pushed myself to the point where it wasn’t fun anymore.

A couple days of cooking for myself and for my family, of giving and receiving and feeling the love of new family and old family, I am feeling back on track.

The only downside to my break? Blogger back up. I have a crazy amount of dishes, baked goods and general yumminess to tell you about.

So I thought I’d start with what was meant to be the eleventh day of treats. Something my grandmother taught me to make. Which is totally fitting considering today is her birthday!

When I was young, my grandmother would always come down to our house for Christmas and together we would make apple pie. We always ended up with some excess dough, so we put that doughy goodness to work.

This always made it onto the plate of cookies left for Santa on Christmas Eve. There were usually a couple of left over sugar cookies and shortbread on that plate Christmas morning, but not one of these would be in sight.

You will need…

2 cups of flour
½ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup cold water (really cold)
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
¼ cup cinnamon

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oil, water and salt. Mix the ingredients until they form a ball of dough.

Cut the dough into four equal mini dough balls.

Place one of the mini balls between two pieces of wax paper and roll them out until they are about 1/8th of an inch thick.

Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of the mixture onto the dough.

Roll the dough up into a long thin roll. Sprinkle the top of the roll with a little extra sugar and cinnamon.

Cut the roll into little bites and put them on a clean cookie sheet.

Repeat with the other 3 dough balls.

Bake the rolls for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Enjoy warm, with a big glass of milk.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Love and Beer Floats
